The first Walmart store was opened by Sam Walton in the summer of 1962. From there, Walmart has had success as a retailer with thousands of stores nationwide and internationally.
Walmart is not your average store. By the 1980s, Walmart reached $1 billion in sales revenue. As a commercial conglomerate, Walmart employs over 2.1 million associates around the world and has the financial means to promote 180,000 associates to higher-paying positions.

What is Wal-Mart’s Workers’ Compensation Policy?
Workers’ compensation is insurance provided by your employer. Most Florida employers are required to carry it. It provides compensation for employees who are injured during the course of their employment. Florida workers’ compensation insurance is required of employers who have at least four employees.
To receive benefits, you must notify your employer of your injury within 30 days of the incident. Once your employer is aware of your injury, they will have seven (7) days to report it to the insurance company.
As soon as your employer notifies the insurance company that you have been injured, the insurer will provide you with a list of authorized physicians. You must choose a provider from this list, and you will only be allowed to switch providers once.
What You Need to Know About Workers’ Compensation
As an employee, you have certain responsibilities under workers’ compensation. You must communicate with your employer, insurance provider, and treating physician to ensure that you are receiving reimbursement for medical expenses and lost wages.
Medical benefits will include payment for:
- Doctor visits
- Prescriptions
- Hospitalization
- Surgeries
- Medical imaging and other tests
- Physical Therapy
- Prosthesis
- Travel expenses
If you are unable to perform your normal job due to your injuries, you may be entitled to wage replacement. You will be ineligible to receive these benefits for the first seven (7) days of your disability. You will not receive your first reimbursement check until 21 days after the insurer is notified regarding your accident or injury.
Lost wage benefits will vary based on your injury. A person whose injury results in total disability will be unable to work, while a person who is partially disabled will be able to work but will only be able to perform lighter job tasks.
For those employees who are receiving temporary benefits, you can receive benefits for 104 weeks or until you reach maximum medical improvement (MMI). MMI is a point at which you will no longer medically improve. MMI must be determined by your treating physician.
