Common Accidents in Port St. Lucie
Every year, thousands of people in Florida suffer serious injuries in motor vehicle accidents, often causing hefty medical bills, lost earnings, and pain and suffering. This already overwhelming situation could become even more daunting when catastrophic injuries are involved since these could leave injured victims with life-changing complications. This is why proper legal guidance is a must. With help from our Port St. Lucie personal injury attorney, you could seek fair compensation to cover all your motor vehicle accident-related losses.
Here at Rosenthal, Levy, Simon & Sosa, our Port St. Lucie personal injury attorneys handle the following motor vehicle accident claims:
Car Accidents
These can involve a single vehicle or multiple vehicles and could range from simple fender benders to more devastating, life-altering, or fatal crashes. Common types of car accidents include:
- Head-on crashes
- Side-impact accidents
- Rear-end crashes
- Vehicle rollovers
- T-bone accidents
- Sideswipe collisions
Truck Accidents
These accidents can include lighter trucks used for daily deliveries to massive trucks used for transporting other vehicles and construction equipment, among many others. Truck accidents usually result in catastrophic or fatal injuries, particularly for drivers and occupants of smaller vehicles.
Motorcycle Accidents
It’s unfair that motorcyclists are made out to be careless or reckless drivers when in reality, most motorcycle accidents actually occur because of another motorist failing to notice the motorcyclist. When this occurs, the motorcyclist is usually the one who suffers serious injuries because they don’t have the same level of protection that other motor vehicles have.
In most cases, these motor vehicle accidents occur because of driver error and negligence due to fatigued driving, distracted driving, reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving, and driver inexperience. In some cases, however, inclement weather conditions, poorly maintained roadways, malfunctioning traffic control signals, and faulty vehicle and/or parts may also play a role in causing motor vehicle accidents.
Slip and Fall Accidents
Slip and fall accidents could happen almost anywhere, from a slippery sidewalk to a wet floor in a restaurant. Conditions that usually cause people to slip and fall include:
- Wet, slippery floors
- Defective staircase
- Oil floors
- Snow or ice buildup on walking surfaces
- Uneven floors
- Unsecured carpets or rugs
- Broken or loose stairs, steps, sidewalks, or floors
- Hidden extension cords
A property owner could be held legally liable for a slip and fall accident and the injured victim’s injuries if one of these circumstances apply to the accident:
- The property owner or their employee actually caused the circumstances or conditions that led to the slip and fall.
- The property owner or their employee must have known of or identified the dangerous conditions since a reasonable individual responsible for maintaining a property would’ve known about them and taken steps to repair or remove them.
- The property owner or an employee must’ve been aware of the hazardous conditions but failed to address them, resulting in the slip and fall accident.
But take note that just because you slipped and fell on someone else’s property doesn’t automatically prove the owner’s negligence. You must clearly demonstrate that they were aware or should have reasonably known that their property was unsafe, but they did nothing to correct the dangerous situation.
