Helping Clients With Complicated Uber Accident Claims

With the continued popularity of ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft, fewer and fewer people are using taxi cabs to get around large cities and other urban areas. However, with the increase in Uber vehicles on the road comes the possibility of serious motor vehicle collisions that could leave Uber riders and others seriously injured.

If you have suffered an injury in an accident that involved an Uber vehicle, it is important that you have experienced legal counsel on your side throughout your case. Motor vehicle accidents that involve ridesharing companies are different from other types of motor vehicle collisions that occur within the State of Florida.

The experienced South Florida Uber accident attorneys at Rosenthal, Levy, Simon & Sosa have the necessary knowledge and skills to help you settle your Uber accident personal injury case – or take your case to court if that becomes necessary. Speak with us today to learn more about how we could help you pursue the compensation that you need for all of your Uber accident injuries.

When an Uber Corporate Policy Comes into Play

Drivers of Uber vehicles, just like all other motor vehicle drivers who are operating their vehicles on the roadway, are expected to operate their vehicles in a reasonable, careful, and safe manner at all times. When Uber drivers breach this duty of care, they can cause serious accidents.

In some instances, an Uber corporate insurance policy comes into play. This policy must be at least $1 million under Florida rideshare laws, and it typically takes effect the moment that the Uber driver decides to accept a fare through Uber’s online app. This coverage will then remain in effect until such time as the fare ends and the vehicle rider has arrived at his or her final destination.

It is also important to keep in mind that different amounts of corporate coverage will come into effect at different times. For example, the corporate policy limits are typically different in the event an accident occurs if the Uber driver is logged into the system but has not yet picked up a fare. In that instance, the corporate limits of coverage are typically $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, and $25,000 for damage to property resulting from the accident.

Responsibility of Other Motor Vehicle Drivers

In cases where an Uber passenger is injured because another motor vehicle driver (other than the Uber driver) was at fault for the accident, then the accident victim might be able to file a claim against the at-fault driver’s motor vehicle insurance company, seeking damages. The accident victim could then recover monetary compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other non-economic damages.
