With an annual revenue of more than $88 billion, FedEx is considered the global leader in delivery services. Employing over 500,000 workers, FedEx offers fast and dependable services to customers in over 220 countries.
Such a commitment to their customers can come at the expense of a driver’s safety. FedEx employees who have been injured in the scope of their employment may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.
If you work for FedEx and were injured in a work related motor vehicle collision, we can help you get lost wages and medical care. Our Florida workers’ compensation lawyers have assisted other workers in your situation with receiving benefits.
Types of Injuries Sustained by FedEx Employees
Whether you are in the warehouse or out delivering packages, FedEx employees may sustain any of the following injuries:
- Warehouse workers may be struck by a forklift or have a load fall off a forklift and hit them
- A worker’s hand or piece of clothing can get caught in a conveyor belt
- Stacked boxes can topple over and strike a worker
- Delivery truck drivers may get hit by passenger vehicle drivers who did not see the truck pulling out into traffic
- Delivery truck drivers may hurt their back lifting heavy shipments
What Should FedEx Employees Do Following an Accident?
If you were in a motor vehicle accident while delivering packages, you will need to take appropriate action. If there were any injuries, fatalities, or more than $500 in damage, you should call the police. The police will visit the scene and file a traffic crash report.
Additionally, you should be sure to document the scene, taking photographs of any vehicle damage, skid marks, and damage to utility poles, mailboxes, or other property. Photographic evidence and a police report will likely be beneficial in filing an insurance claim. Most importantly, you need to immediately notify your supervisor.
How Does Workers’ Compensation Work in Florida?
Workers’ compensation is insurance that is provided by your employer at no cost to you. Every business that has at least four employees is required to offer workers’ compensation insurance.
To receive compensation benefits, you must report the accident or injury within 30 days. After you report the accident to your employer, he or she must report the incident to their insurance company within seven days.
Florida workers’ compensation will reimburse you for any necessary medical bills and lost wages. The treating physician will forward all bills directly to your employer’s insurance carrier. If your injury is severe, you may be unable to return to work until your doctor gives their approval. Unfortunately, there is no requirement that your boss hold your job during this time.
Compensation benefits will also include lost wages. This will apply if you are unable to work at all or if you must take a lower-paying job. For example, if you are unable to work for six weeks, you will be awarded temporary total disability benefits. This will be 66 2/3% of your average weekly wage. As of 2024, the maximum limit is capped at $1,260 per week.
