Fatal auto accident in Panama City
When two vehicles collide, the force of impact often results in serious injuries to drivers and passengers alike. In a head-on crash, the injuries are often fatal. In the early morning hours of a recent Wednesday, a fatal auto accident occurred on a Florida highway in Panama City.
Both of the vehicles involved in the head-on crash were Ford Fusions. One of the drivers had been traveling in an eastbound direction moments before the collision. Investigators are still working to determine what may have caused the vehicle to veer out of its lane into the westbound side of the roadway.
A driver who was traveling in that lane at the time is said to have attempted to swerve to avoid the crash, but the resulting collision caused the car that was out of its lane to roll. Sadly, a 19-year-old passenger in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, as well as two other passengers, were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle also suffered serious injuries in the crash.
One of the things investigators try to determine in a fatal auto accident is whether the driver who appears to be responsible for the collision was impaired at the time. Such investigations often reveal evidence of intoxication. Distracted driving is also another common factor in many Florida collisions that result in serious injuries. An injured victim may seek financial recovery for his or her losses by filing a claim in a civil court. Similar recourse is available to an immediate family member of a deceased accident victim.
