Truck accident proves fatal when hot asphalt
Driving on Florida highways can be stressful, especially when there are a lot of large trucks on the road. Often, unsafe lane changes or sudden steering adjustments result in an accident. It was after 10 p.m. on a recent Thursday night when a truck accident occurred on I-95. Sadly, the incident resulted in a fatality.
Preliminary investigations showed that the 27-year-old driver of a sports utility vehicle collided with an asphalt truck during a lane change. The truck driver, a man in his 50s, reportedly swerved his vehicle in an attempt to avoid crashing into the SUV. In doing so the truck driver lost control of his big rig.
The truck apparently flipped over when the driver swerved. The hot asphalt contained in the truck dumped all over the road. Tragically, police say the asphalt also poured into the SUV the young man was driving. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Even when a driver notices potential danger and tries to avoid it, it is not always possible, particularly when another individual is making an unsafe lane change or driving erratically. If a commercial truck driver is injured while working, he or she would typically report the injury to his or her employer, then navigate the workers’ compensation process to collect benefits during recovery. An experienced Florida personal injury law attorney can provide strong support to a recovering victim in a similar situation who might also be considering filing a legal claim against the estate of a fatally injured driver whose negligence was believed to have caused the victim’s serious injuries.
