3 ways to increase the chances of workers' comp success

If you sustained an injury at work or developed a condition related to your occupation, you may face medical bills. At the same time, your injury may prevent you from working, or force you to take on reduced hours or to take unpaid time off to attend treatment appointments. Workers' compensation can provide the benefits you need to get you through this difficult time.

The process of filing for workers' compensation can be complicated. You do not want to go through all the paperwork only to receive a denial, especially during a time when you are already in physical pain and under financial pressure. Although some factors remain outside your control, you can take steps to make an approval more likely.

Report your injury promptly

Although Florida workers' compensation rules technically give you up to 30 days to report your injury to your employer, it is best to notify your boss as soon as possible. Waiting to report can raise red flags and lead the insurer to scrutinize your claim more closely. To document your situation, it is best to inform your employer in writing. If you do so verbally, sending an email confirmation can be a smart move.

See a doctor right away

When you get injured on the job, you may not initially realize the extent of your injury. Even if an injury seems minor, it is best to see a healthcare provider as soon as you can for a comprehensive checkup. Be sure to let the doctor know specifically what led to the injury. Not only is this necessary for a proper diagnosis, but the reports your physician will eventually submit for your workers' comp claim should also accurately reflect the circumstances.

Keep a thorough record

Detailed and accurate documentation is important to the success of your case. Pay close attention to your symptoms and how they affect your life. Note issues such as limitations on your activities or worsening of any previous conditions.
