Rosenthal & Levy Underwrites One Month Operating Expenses Diocese of Palm Beach
Maya Ministry Family Literacy Program

Firm Donates $6,000 to Support Guatemala-Mayan Literacy Program

July 13, 2006 West Palm Beach, FL—The Law Offices of Rosenthal & Levy recently donated $6,000 to the Diocese of Palm Beach Maya Ministry Family Literacy Program. Rosenthal & Levy has been an advocate of the program and its Director, Sister Rachel Sena for more than two years. The literacy program recently experienced a budget shortfall due to unfortunate timing on several funding grants. The donation covers one month’s operating expenses, enabling the program to continue serving members of the Guatemala-Mayan community in Palm Beach County. Sister Rachel commented, “This gift is a gift of life and light to those who seek to learn how to read and write. It is also the gift of hope.” Senior Partner Gerald A. Rosenthal stated, “Achieving literacy is the first crucial step in achieving prosperity. Only through programs like this and people like Sister Rachel are these families being served. Our law firm is blessed to be in a position to help.”

The Maya Ministry Family Literacy Program addresses a critical need that few educators are able to address. Most Guatemala-Mayan adults have never been to school and enter the program unable to read or write in any language. The program is one of the few in the state that caters exclusively to students at this “preliterate” level. It is one of the only programs in the nation providing literacy education in a Maya language (there are 25 spoken in Guatemala, six are spoken in Palm Beach County) before transitioning students into Spanish and/or English language classes. As of May 1st 2006 there were 85 families on the program's waiting list.

Since 1985, members of Rosenthal & Levy have served over 10,000 clients from the Treasure Coast, Palm Beach and Broward County. The Firm maintains offices in Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach, Florida. With 11 attorneys and a support staff of 55, Rosenthal & Levy practices in the areas of personal injury and wrongful death, workers ’ compensation, overtime wage and hour and Social Security Disability law.
