Habitat for Humanity

James B. Bramuchi, a retired general contractor, began Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County in October 1986 to help economically disadvantaged people improve their living conditions.

The mission of Habitat is the elimination of poverty housing. Habitat affiliates are volunteer organizations assisted by staff personnel.

The criteria for family selection is need, willingness to complete 500 hours of sweat-equity with Habitat, and ability to make monthly mortgage payments.

After completion of the sweat-equity requirement and construction of their home, the family is provided a 25-year, no interest, no profit loan payable to Habitat. Their mortgage payments are then applied to the building fund for construction of additional homes for other needy families.
